The Community Makers Market is an exciting project coordinated by Merseyside Expanding Horizons (MEH), a not-for-profit organisation focused on social inclusion. MEH works for a socially inclusive society in which all individuals can achieve their potential.
Merseyside Expanding Horizons is based in the Joseph Lappin Centre, a Community Centre opened in 2013 in memory of Joseph Lappin in Old Swan.
Based in the heart of Old Swan, the Joseph Lappin Centre is a thriving multi-purpose community resource that provides a wide range of free/affordable services, activities, meeting spaces and events for people of all ages of the community.
The Joseph Lappin Centre hosts other key organisations working in partnership to make a difference in the lives of local people.
In March 2015 Merseyside Expanding Horizons was awarded by the Lottery Funded to create a monthly Community Makers Market in Old Swan.
The Community Makers Market aims to make Old Swan a better place to live by encouraging the development of the area through social and economic features.
Indeed, the Community Makers Market allows to:
- Promote the social cohesion by giving an opportunity to people to meet in a free social space
- Provide an opportunity to locals to showcase their skills and talents through their stalls
- Encourage entrepreneurship
- Boost the local economy
- Enjoy the community
